My parent's bought a ranch about 2 years ago in Somerville Oregon. We have been admiring their beautiful pictures and anticipating a visit. So finally, Bailey, Jenni and I flew up to Oregon for 8 days. Then on Friday Brandon and Tim came up for the weekend. It was tons of fun and so beautiful.
Bair Hug Ranch located on Hug Rd. sits on a hill surrounded by snow capped mountains. They have a view of the valley that shows different colored square patches of farm land. Their land is 176 acres of small rolling hills that are super fun to ride the quads on! It provides for one of the most beautiful country views.
We had some crazy weather in the beginning of the week. The first two days snowed! We were not at all prepared for this but we bundled up to go outdoors and play. We looked quite ridiculous actually- we wore snowboarding pants, goggles, beanies, gloves, and snow jackets to go bike riding and ride the quads. Jenni and I also ventured out on some runs wearing our goggles and beanies. I think the neighbors knew we were from california.
The climate was so bizarre because if you went about a mile past their ranch which led to the other side of the hill their was tons of snow blanketed all over the ground and trees. My parent's place got a light blanket of snow that melted by the end of the day. But if you drove down 1 mile to the main road, there was no snow and it would rain. It was weird to drive from rain to light snow to heavy snow all within 3 miles of each other. It provided for all types of fun!
However, by the weekend when the boys came the sun came up and the weather was really comfortable. It worked out great because we were able to do everything in the 2 days that the boys were there. We went hiking in the snowy mountains, bike riding, lots of quad riding, and had a really nice picnic with everyone and flew a kite.
My dad made some bird houses and a big owl house that the boys hung up. The owl house was placed in a big tree facing North-apparently that direction is vital for the owl . They also shot bow and arrows, chopped fire wood, and attracted deer by putting out a bail of alfalfa. The neighbors gave us a tour of their cows and horses and Bailey got to pet a 1 month old calf. Bailey absolutely loved farm life and she learned to moo like a cow.
Bailey's favorite place in the house was in front of a big window that looked out at the view. There was a near-by tree that she could watch the birds and she could also see the dear come up to eat. She would sit by that window on and off all day with her sippy cup.
Now, this picture needs some explanation. Michael and Tawnia got Bailey and my dad these clothes for Christmas so they fit-in at the ranch. My parent's got Bailey a coon-skin hat for the trip and she surprising liked to wear it.
The week peaceful and it was really nice to spend quality time with family. I look forward to having family get-aways on the ranch and for Bailey to be able to have these great experiences.
